MENA Newswire News Desk: French President Emmanuel Macron has formed a new government after weeks of uncertainty, marking a significant shift in the country’s political landscape. The new cabinet, announced by Alexis Kohler, Secretary General of the Elysée Palace, includes several key appointments aimed at balancing centrist and conservative interests.

Macron forms new government, appoints Michel Barnier as prime minister

Antoine Armand has been appointed as the new Finance Minister, while Jean-Noel Barrot will take over as Foreign Minister. The government will be led by veteran politician Michel Barnier, a former European Union Brexit negotiator known for his diplomatic expertise. Barnier’s leadership is expected to bring stability to Macron’s administration amid growing challenges both domestically and internationally.

The reshuffle comes after weeks of political turbulence, with Macron’s leadership under increasing scrutiny following recent legislative setbacks. The President has been seeking to build a more cohesive team capable of addressing France’s economic and social issues while maintaining a strong stance in global diplomacy.

Antoine Armand’s appointment signals a renewed focus on economic reforms, with the Finance Ministry expected to tackle inflation and revitalize growth. Jean-Noel Barrot, the new Foreign Minister, will focus on strengthening France’s international alliances, particularly within the European Union and with key global partners.

Macron’s move to appoint Michel Barnier as Prime Minister has been met with mixed reactions. Some see it as a pragmatic choice, given Barnier’s experience and reputation as a skilled negotiator, while others view it as a strategic attempt to unite the centrist and conservative factions within the government. The new cabinet is expected to take immediate action on a range of critical issues, from economic recovery to social reforms, with the aim of strengthening Macron’s position ahead of the upcoming elections.
